So we are reduced to routine transactions?
the bloated sun rising and setting
its same steady ordinance, our perspiration continuing
its long labor to the ground, the comforting gait of our inhalations and exhalations,
the body’s unifying standard?
the straight, bold, flat line seesawing between us.
Anya Russian is a poet and dance artist from Greensboro, North Carolina. Her poetry grapples with the limitations of understanding the wavering boundaries between people and their environment, cultures, and oneself. In 2010 she received the Poet Laureate Award from the North Carolina Poetry Society.
